Last night Team LOOSE was invited to the #BriskBodega , which turned out to be an awesome event. Brisk Iced Tea teamed up with the Star Wars franchise to create a three city tour (LA, NY, AUS) showcasing the works of talented artists who created pieces inspired by Star Wars Episode 1.
Interesting collaborative events like this are not typical of what we’ve come to expect from the Star Wars brand, known for its shameless license-for-profit schemes (like this), which makes this pretty refreshing (no pun intended).
Usually when an event like this comes around, the artists involved are sub-par and the environment is forced and awkward. It couldn’t have been more of the opposite at the #BriskBodega. DJs wearing Star Wars masks were playing juke remixes of our favorite Trap tracks…free vodka and Brisk was flowing…hipster girls played with light sabers, the art was off the chain, and Just Blaze came on and murdered it!
Good job people! We were in nerd/corporate event/art gallery heaven.
If you are in Austin on March 13th during SXSW I highly suggest RSVPing before it closes.
I thought I had seen it all, but then there was this … The Volkswagen x AT-AT hybrid
Hippies and Nerds UNITE!
If you’re a hippie and love getting stoned, or a nerd who loves Star Wars OR love getting stoned while watching Star Wars… your prayers have been answered.
REVIEW: STAR WARS UNCUT OR, STAR WARS NEEDS A NEW HOPE
One thing you should know about me: I have zero shame confessing my deep deep love for Star Wars. I had a Yoda toothbrush well into high school and was fluent in Ewokese. Feech!
Back to the movie, this concept was made public almost a year ago. Proposed by former Vimeo developer Casey Plugh; What the project spawned into is 00:00:15 segments of the movie, chopped and screwed by fans. Dope idea right? The only rule was that they had to follow the original script. If only I had the pure awesomeness to devote time into character research on the lil homie R2D2; but no, I will leave this up to people way more cool than I am. And sit back and enjoy.
The whole experience might be disorienting and confusing if you haven’t seen the original in awhile. The honest dead give away started really really early into it at 00:03:38 when Woody from Toy Story and everyone’s favorite Turtle Gang were involved, shooting shit up. I forgot who was who and what they were doing. They were obviously fighting, but por que?
Combating my teetering confusion through out the movie, I can say overall I’m really stoked I got to watch it. The remake is not just for fans, young kids, or oldies, its also for stoners everywhere. Who just wanna roll a fatty and watch some comical awesome shit. So green lover not, I highly suggest you sit back and watch. You won’t be disappointed.
REVIEW: Santigold’s “Big Mouth” Starts Hipster Beef
Who said beef was just for rappers? Santigold’s latest single “Big Mouth”, from her sophomore record, Master Of My Make Believe, takes shots at some of today’s biggest pop artists. The track was released recently via her website, for free, in exchange for an email address.
What Everyone’s Saying: The video, illustrated and animated by Cody Chritchoe, jumps from a sunny hot dessert to outer space and eventually to an under water castle which turns into a living room. Think 80’s, very 80’s, with lots of “in your face” neon colored graphics and Santigold’s swaggy background dancers . The video obviously take shots at Katy Perry and Lady Gaga. One figure is scantily clad w/ long blue hair (Katy Perry) petting a furry animal and the other is a pale white female chatting incessantly about theatre ( Lady Gaga).
What We’re Saying: Santigold has balls, man. The video is extra trill. This doesn’t seem like an obvious attempt to sell a record— ahem, Common. She hasn’t come out and formally dissed anyone yet but our best guess is that someone has a “Big Mouth”. This upbeat track with tribal drums is the same tempo and style from what we’ve come to expect from her via her 2008 self titled debut, Santogold. If this is any indication, MOMB, will prove to be another banger. Look out for the album this spring.
